10 steps to use the conflict in the workplace to your advantage

Is there such thing as a good fight? The willingness to take conflict and turn a bad fight in a well is a characteristic of a great leader. And if you want to learn, there are steps you can take to help turn negative conflicts into creative opportunities.

1) Do not despair, prepare!

First, and most importantly, know that sometimes it is better to stay away from conflicts. Know your starting point – the point at which makes more sense to withdraw from a conflict that works to manage the problem. Sometimes it will be your best option.

Each has its own style of management conflicts. Understand the different styles, identify the styles of yours and your team. Learn to appreciate the different styles of others, take the lead in case of conflict, and the value of the creative spark that can ignite conflicts.

2) Follow the yellow brick road

What is your goal? If you can get agree on a common goal – to think creatively solve a problem, to generate a new idea or sell the product – you have a better opportunity to exploit the dispute. Sometimes, the roots of conflict, it does not even agree on what the problem – or if you have trouble dealing with different issues.

3) reveal, not conceal

You must accept – at least to some extent – to be vulnerable, to reveal why you want something, and declare what is really important for you on a topic. When we are in conflict, we always have a story – usually one that justifies our proposed solution. Listen and try to understand the history of the other person. If the other person will not reveal your needs and interests, ask open questions and look for clues.

4) solve the problem, not the person

Focus on the problem and convince the other person to join you to resolve the problem. Making the problem to their common enemy, instead of blaming the other person for causing the problem. Try to avoid conflicts become personal.

5) Play boundaries

Sometimes conflicts are caused by problems with process rather than substantive issues. If the other person is difficult to start talking about the rules and procedures for the problem. This can help you manage a creative conflict that looks like a stationary object.

6) Add a storm

Brainstorm – all suggestions welcome – Sort and then through them all and determine which merit further study. Many of us fall in love with our solutions and decide that our idea is the only option. The best solution for all parties concerned can not be what we already discussed.

7) Take a timeout

Management of the defenders of the classics creative conflict have used the approach in history. Swallow Luther King Jr. has suggested that "go to the mountain" during the conflict to gain higher ground and a better perspective on the problem. Gandhi retired to meditation and fasting during the most intense periods their struggle to liberate the people of India. When things were stalled or consider taking a pause to regroup.

8) Talk To You Drop

People do not have enough time for creative conflict management. In our modern world and instantly, we lost our patience. If you have decided on the conflict is the value of your time and energy, make sure you have enough time to drive. It usually takes over as long as we believe in producing of good fights and bad.

9) close ranks

Upon reaching an agreement or a creative solution must pass through a kind of closing process. Arrange a time in the future to examine how the solution works. Agree an action plan to achieve the objectives of an agreement and decide who does what, when and where.

10) Write to prevent renewed fighting

Write what you feel you have reached various stages. The process helps you clarify your own ideas and consensus. All tend to have the meaning we ascribe to a particular word or argument is the same for everyone. The first act will save you a world of hurt down the road.

These ten steps can provide a roadmap to take you with ability through the use of conflict to generate creativity. If you do not need to use every ten to each situation, it is good to have into account before trying to solve a problem. Then you will be able to see where you are stuck and what to do to move forward. In complex litigation, is likely to need work your way through all the steps with all parties.
