Are there any tips for job hunting?
In May I lost my job and have been looking for a job equal to the one that I lost. I have used Monster, CareerBuilder, Yahoo hot jobs, my local state employment agency, the news paper, and none of it has been working. What are some other options for me to find a job that is equal in pay to the one I just lost. Making less is not an option, I deserve better than that.
I live in MO. I have 10 yrs of warehouse expeirence. I am looking to make $14.00 an hour or more, nothing less is acceptable. I worked too hard to get up that high and I am not going to take a step backwards. I am better than that.
Where do you want to work? Just go straight to the source. Go the the businesses/stores/offices where you are interested in working, introduce yourself to the manager or owner, hand him/her your resume with brief cover letter, and tell them you would appriciate a personal interview next time they have a job opening. Be sure to ask for their business card. In a week to 10 days call that person back, remind them of who you are, ask if there are any opening that will be coming available soon.
I have people that call my business all the time looking for a job. If I’m not hiring I usually ask if they want to leave their name and phone number for future openings. I can collect 20-30 names easily before my next job opening comes available. By calling the names I’ve collected, I can forego advertising costs because I’m able to fill the position with the names I’ve collected.
