Employer Feedback

Exactly what information is a former employer the right to be called when a potential employer?
Are they allowed to say they were fired? Are they allowed to say / no rehire. Or do you just make sure you have worked, confirms the date of start / end? I think a former employer could, if they wanted to sabotage any future job search … therefore prevents a new beginning. Any comments would be appreciated.
An employer can not say anything that is true about you without getting into trouble. Sure, they might "act out" the little things to make it appear much larger, without a lie. It depends on what your company policy. Ours is not only confirms the start and end date, salary, and title (s). We do not comment on the person "rehire" state. We do not give letters of reference, unless they are to obtain the academic or professional credentials.
