Employee Benefits Supervisor

I went back to work after an injury, and my employer took away the benefits. Is this legal?
Back in October, broke one leg while I was at work. I had to take three months off work and I received weekly payments of MetLife under my insurance short term disability. Returning to work My supervisor told me that I would be abandoned as a full-time part-time. Not only have I lost more than half of my income, it also became eligible for benefits because the company only gives them full-time employees. Is there a law that protects people from having something like this with them?
